It's not about denial,it's about establishing the evidence I previously asked for a link about the Iams cruelty that didn't relate back to Peta and uncaged.
Can you post a link please Nina that is independant and doesn't relate to peta and uncaged?

Totally off topic,Peta supports BSL and in a statement they say,
Most people have no idea that at many animal shelters across the country, any pit bull that comes through the front door doesn't go out the back door alive.

Until such a time that independant evidence is available,I will ignore what has been said about iams,I will have nothing to do with any campaign that goes directly back to this dispicable organisation.

There is no independant evidence anywhere else,if there is can you post a link Nina?
I can - an organisation called In Defense of Animals has also found details of cruelty by Eukanuba/IAMS. Go to the following link:

Iams - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and then click on the In Defense of Animals link to read what they found.

Re: Stop Now!

Sorry Sallyanne - this is a better link to what In Defense of Animals found:

IAMS Kills!

They do quote what PETA found in a separate link to what they found - but as you will see from the Wikipedia article they are a totally separate organisation from PETA and do a hell of a lot of good work.

btw - I totally agree with you about PETA and their "morals" - but that does not alter the fact that their findings are true.

Clicked on the link but there is nothing about Iams ,this is what is written,
In Defense of Animals (IDA) is an animal rights organization based in San Rafael, California, USA. Its slogan is "working to protect the rights, welfare, and habitats of animals".

Established in 1983, IDA's core philosophy is that all animals – whether wild or domestic, feral or farmed – are worthy of concern and empathy. However, the group treats the welfare of pets as one of its top priorities.

[edit] History
Elliot M. Katz has presided over IDA since founding the organization in 1983. A graduate of Cornell University's School of Veterinary Medicine, Katz's help was sought by animal rights activists seeking to end animal experimentation at the laboratories of the University of California, Berkeley. After finding these animals living in overcrowded and dirty facilities,[citation needed] and being experimented on in their hundreds, he helped found Californians for Responsible Research, which campaigned successfully for the university to provide decent care for the animals in their labs.[citation needed] After this success, the group broadened the scope of its mission and IDA was born.

Since then, IDA has grown into one of the foremost international animal advocacy organizations,[citation needed] with over 85,000 members worldwide. Headquartered in Northern California, it has offices throughout the United States and branches in India and Africa. The group has received numerous honors and accolades over the years for its achievements in the field of animal protection, the most significant of which was Katz's induction into the Animal Rights Hall of Fame in 2003, twenty years after he founded IDA.

[edit] Programs and campaigns
IDA works for the protection of animals used in scientific research, food and clothing production, entertainment and sport, and other areas. Its methods include coordinating protests and nonviolent civil disobedience actions including sit-ins, lock downs and banner hangings.

Ongoing programs include a chimpanzee sanctuary run by IDA-Africa, located in the forests of Cameroon and rescuing animals from the illegal bushmeat trade; and a campaign aimed at improving conditions for elephants in zoos and circuses. IDA also claims it was the first animal protection organization to force an animal research laboratory - the Coulston Foundation, once the largest chimpanzee research center in the world - out of existence.

The organisation's other achievements include:[citation needed]

IDA investigator Ben White setting free 40 dolphins off the coast of Japan by swimming underwater to cut the nets that imprisoned them.
Securing the transfer of eleven Bonnet Macaque monkeys from the University of Colorado (where they had been used in experiments on alcoholism and maternal separation) to a Texas sanctuary.
Preventing the U.S. Army from breaking the legs of 120 retired racing greyhounds.
Closing down puppy mills, dog fighting rings and abusive sanctuaries and shelters.
Saving the lives of hundreds of Catalina Island goats and buffalo.
Creating a chimpanzee sanctuary and education center in Cameroon and a sanctuary for abused and abandoned animals in rural Mississippi.
Freeing 180 beagles scheduled to be dissected by UC Davis veterinary students.
Spearheading the rescue of hundreds of dogs and cats after a devastating "firestorm" swept through the Oakland/Berkeley hills in California, destroying more than 3,500 homes.
Preventing the bow hunting of Tule elk at the Point Reyes National Seashore.
Canceling a proposed slaughter of thousands of baby seals off the coast of South Africa.
Ending New York University's crack cocaine experiments on monkeys, Rockefeller University’s vomiting experiments on cats, and Michael Berens’ brain cancer experiments on beagle puppies.
Convincing fifteen U.S. cities, two counties and one state to officially recognize their citizens as animal "guardians" by incorporating the term into their city laws.
Blocking the construction of an animal research facility within the National Park system.
Pressuring the San Francisco Zoo to transfer its elephants to a sanctuary.

Well I,you or any member on this website could have produced a site similar to that once again there is no independant evidence it goes straight back to what peta uncovered.

And this is what Iams are saying,
An animal rights organization is making misleading allegations about feeding studies performed for The Iams Company at an external facility that we left in early 2003. These allegations not only are old, but also are highly sensationalized and laced with untruths.

Here are the facts about Iams:

FACT: Posing as an animal lover, an activist "undercover investigator" was hired for an Iams-funded role in the contract facility. She had responsibility for the socialization and enrichment of the dogs participating in Iams' feeding studies, and was paid to develop and implement a program to ensure that these dogs were well cared for. Rather than focusing on her assignment she captured video not of the scenes of the socialization and enrichment activities she was being paid to develop and deliver, but of dogs and cats that were housed in the same facility but not a part of Iams studies.

FACT: Iams doesn't kill dogs or cats! It's against the animal studies policy that has been in place for years.

FACT: Iams does not authorize the debarking of any dogs.

FACT: Iams has an industry-leading global animal studies policy that ensures the care and welfare of every dog and cat participating in our feeding studies.

FACT: Iams is committed to the ultimate elimination of laboratory feeding studies as scientifically valid alternatives become available -and we are actively using, developing and seeking alternatives!

FACT: Iams takes full responsibility for the destiny of each and every dog and cat participating in our feeding studies, a program established as of July, 2003. Dogs and cats are adopted into loving homes after they stop working with Iams or they retire with Iams.

FACT: Iams is a company full of pet lovers who dedicate their lives to helping dogs and cats live longer, healthier lives. We see this in the more than 30 million pets worldwide who annually thrive on the innovative nutrition of The Iams Company.

So it's down to individuals to make their choice,as I have already explained, and because alot of the info is coming from peta and directly relating back to them I will disregard it.
They are supposed to stand for the ethical treatment of animals,,I tend to disagree, their staff have been on cruelty charges etc,so it's a bit hypocritical of them to campaign in this way,as jackson previously said,"PETA and Uncaged (whether linked or not. I have seen evidence in the past to link them, but cannot find it currently) were not interested in Iams until P&G (who they are well nown to hate) took the company over. "

Re: Stop Now!

I don't know enough about the various Animal Welfare groups to comment on their findings and/or misgivings. Facts are that animals are being cruely mistreated and abused, in whichever Country, including England and it should be stopped, not sanctioned for whatever reason.

When I crated my kittens in a large dog crate when unsupervised I felt cruel, by comparison theirs was like a room in the Hilton.

I find it frustrating that while I know this type of thing goes on, and I know its harrowing to watch at the end of the day I am still sat at a computer not doing anything to stop it. Opinions are one thing actions are another, we need to sort a lot of things out for dogs in this country before looking elsewhere.

Thanks,
In the Iams part there only two references,if it is true from there own research then it's appalling.
It's not as bad as what Peta are making out but cruelty none the less.

Re: Stop Now!

Do you know Sallyanne, if I had the slightest doubt that the pet food I had chosen to feed my dogs/cats tested on animals (a fact that they DO NOT deny). I would not not touch that company at all.

Various people have posted links for you, independent of Peta, since you seem to have a fixation on them. I also posted a link from Border Collie rescue about Proctor and Gamble, and still you believe that the company are whiter than white

Even though they themselves, admit to testing on animals. What more proof do you want??????

Re: Stop Now!

Just another link for all you disbelievers -

SUNDAY EXPRESS
by Lucy Johnson
A major sponsor of Crufts dog show has carried out horrific experiments on animals, it can be revealed today. Thousands of weekend holiday visitors to the famous show at the NEC in Birmingham will be shocked to learn the truth about IAMS, a pet food made by Procter and Gamble.
The Sunday Express has uncovered damning evidence of gruesome tests performed on dogs and cats during the development of the product, which is being heavily promoted at the event. IAMS has also been backed by the RSPCA - but after being told of our findings the animal welfare charity said it would sever all ties.
Last night Crufts organisers launched their own investigation and were considering removing a stand sponsored by Procter and Gamble. In supermarkets and pet shops across Britain, IAMS is being marketed as a breakthrough in animal health care and nutrition.
But our investigation as revealed that hundreds of animals suffered incredible agony in experiments designed to perfect IAMS. A huge dossier of research papers exposes how scientists deliberately induced kidney failure and other conditions in dogs and cats. Some experiments involved performing operations on healthy animals which were later killed.
Last night animal activists and MPs condemned the research.
Campaigner and comedy writer Carla Lane said:
"It is horrifying to think people are buying pet food that involves so much experimentation. You don't have to harm animals to find out what's good for them to eat."

And Liberal Democrat MP Norman Baker said:
"It's ironic to say the least that a company which purports to care for animal is conducting abhorrent animal experiments behind closed doors. Perhaps they should list their experiments on their labels and then see how much they sell."

Animal rights organisation Uncaged Campaigns is to stage a protest at Crufts, distributing leaflets and waving banners highlighting "the suffering behind the science" and urging a boycott. Director Dan Lyons said:
"Even the people representing IAMS at the show are unlikely to know they are promoting a company that inflicts pain and death on animals. Once they see the evidence they will be as appalled as anyone else."

The protest is likely to embarrass the show's organisers who boast a star studded guest list, including Coronation Street's Roy Barraclough (Alec Gilroy), actress Susan George and Eastenders Martin Kemp (Steve Owen) and Pam St Clements (Pat Butcher).
Details of the experiments are buried in obscure scientific papers uncovered by the Sunday Express and Uncaged Campaigns.
In one experiment, 24 young dogs had their right kidneys removed and the left partly damaged to investigate how protein affects dogs with kidney failure. Eight dogs were killed to analyse the kidney tissue. Dogs which became sick were not treated because it would have undermined the test results.
In another test, the stomachs of 28 cats were exposed so scientists could analyse the effects of feeding them fibre. The animals were operated on for at least two hours and then killed.
The research team sterilised 24 female cats, which were then over-fed until they became obese. They were then starved on a crash diet and when they had lost at least 30 per cent of their weight their livers were examined to investigate the link between weight loss and liver disease. The company also sponsored research in which 14 husky puppies were repeatedly injected with live virus vaccines and allergy-causing proteins for the first 12 weeks of their lives. They developed permanent illnesses in the test, which was designed to see how severely allergic they could become.
Twelve huskies, 12 poodles and 12 labradors were regularly given chest wounds to see if diet could affect fur regrowth. This was justified in the study on the grounds that "dogs are enjoyable to touch and look at... Dogs with coat problems are simply not handled as much."
Dr Dan Cary, Director of technical communications for IAMS said that his company cared about the welfare of animals. He justified the scientific studies as being carried out to save pets from illnesses and improve physical well-being. He said: "Our mission is to enhance the health of dogs and cats. We take their welfare extremely seriously during the studies and don't enter into research lightly. All our studies have to be valid science and we have to be sure they are never repeated as it is wasteful of animal time."
Lucy Johnson, Sunday Express 27th May 2001.
