Re: What breed would you suggest?

My border terrier isn't yappy or mean, she is the sweetest thing as are all the bts I know, really good with kids and if bought up with cats and other animals they are fine, great with other dogs too. Nearly all my borders have gone to people with children. They also have lots of energy but are not destructive around the house, recall needs working on though. They are great in the winter however wet and muddy it is they are always dry and clean by the time you get home!

Re: What breed would you suggest?

What about a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel - every single one I've met has been as soppy as anything. Gentle, happy to play and happy to sleep on the sofa!

I agree, i have a DDB and she is the most calming, placid dog i have ever met. Ideal for kids and (so far) not destructive. As long as she has a comfy spot to snooze in and a regular feed she is happy! They dont need loads of exercise as well.

I also have a staff and also agree with all of the comments they are ideal. They have more energy and are playful but ideal for kids and family life. My little staff is so loving!

Though they are a bit of an odd couple walking up the street!

I totally agree with MrsD they may be big in stature but they take up less room in the house than a smaller dog because they are so steady - the springers are like whirling dervishes.

Another nice dog is the welsh terrier but they have to be clipped or a german spitz which only takes a bit of grooming.

I agree with Golden Retriever or Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Good job getting her away from Labradors, how anyone manages with a Lab and kids I don't know.
