Credit crunch affecting dog rescue

Being involved with rescue, we are finding that at the moment we are yet again inundated with dogs in desperate need of a space and our help.

The credit crunch is hitting hard so on top of the usual summer intake we are finding that people are calling on our help as they are being repossessed and the difficulty is in finding rented accommodation that will allow people to have their dogs

Dogs Trust and RSPCA are not being at all helpful at present and so these already desperate people are having to give up their beloved pets.

What we need is a charity that is set up to help those that find themselves evicted/ repossessed and without anyone to look afer their pets, the elderly have the Cinnamon trust, unless anyone knows of a UK wide charity that does this already?

Re: Credit crunch affecting dog rescue

I don't know of any charity that exists. Perhaps one could be set up? I would be happy to help out.

Maybe a solution would be to temporarily foster these peeps dogs until they are back on their feet again. Then can be reunited with their companions.

A bit like the service Dog Trust offers to women who have suffered from domestic violence and had to go to a refuge.

WHat do you think?

Thanks for the offer

The problem is that many fosterers will only foster short term due to becoming attached.

I'd like to see maybe a website with letting agents posting dog friendly lettings and homes for rent aorund the UK

Re: Credit crunch affecting dog rescue

To try and explain a little, My partner and I are both in 'second' relationships, my love for my dogs has always been foremost in my life, fortunately my partner feels the same, yes, we love each other to bits but our dogs are as important to us as anything, maybe the reason for that is because we did not have children together I don't know, Misty the 4 year old we just lost cost us £11,000 is vets fees and NEITHER of us begrudge one single penny, that shows to me we are committed to each other as well as our dogs, NEVER, did I have to worry about the next bill coming in! and for that I shall never forget the man I share my life with - because it tells me the kind of man he is!
regards
Sue
