It depends what people are adding. It is the dogs diet in general that should be balanced, not each meal, which you will know if you feed raw.

Considering 'complete' foods contain high proportions of ceral, and far from adequate meat, I can't see that adding meat/meat and bone can do much harm, to be honest.

Yep, all the dogs we've had fed on Bakers have behavioural problems, I think that says alot.

I think that's a good point, until you've fed raw you don't really know what a healthy dog is. I thought Milo was the picture of health and people did comment on his lovely coat when he was fed Wagg but the difference on raw is incredible now everyone comments on his coat.

Re: do you feed dry food to your dogs

I would love to have got mine onto the Barf diet, the problem was with Misty that we had to be extremely careful with bactaria, thats was why she was only ever fed nature diet.

Now Misty is at RB I may consider it in the future- but need to do a lot of reading first.

Why do you have to be careful with bacteria?

Re: do you feed dry food to your dogs

I fed James Welbeloved but since last week my lot are fed raw - the changes in them and the poo are fantastic!!!!
I also thought mine looked the picture of health but there have been big changes just in over a week of raw feeding

Yes its better to have a food like Laughing Dog if you are feeding raw with a complete.
I also have half a bag of JW that is used for treats at ringcraft etc....I dont care how long it takes me to use it - after learning what damage feeding complete and raw together can do
Adding other things is fine but raw shouldnt be added to a complete food - yes I used to do it up untill a week ago but not anymore

Edited to add that the post wasnt aimed at Jem - sorry if it looks that way

Re: do you feed dry food to your dogs

It was just that particular dog that we had to be very careful with (there's a picture of here in my album). She had started to be ill in March 2005 which ended with he having a large portion of her stomach removed in the August, and her life save by an amazing vet (referal). It is such a long story won't go into it now but Misty was diagnozed with AI she has 3 further stomach ops (amongst others) and also bloated, Misty went to RB on 11.03.08, we shall never ever forget her, she was an amazing dog.

Re: do you feed dry food to your dogs

Is there a reason you are trying to avoid bones? when I initinally looked at feeding barf the most popular seemed to be chicken wings?
