How do you know someone else would have mistreated her?

SBT Rescue/Welfare consider indivual circumstances rather than blanket polices.
Our first SBT came from SBT Rescue, because of a marriage breakdown and the owner was moving into a flat.He was 8 years old and a lovely old gent,a bit grey around his muzzle but had a super temprement and was lovely. He was with us for a few years until he left for the bridge.

Both my 2 are KC registered but unfortunately my eldest is always at the vets, so registration doesn't guarantee good health.

Still if I was buying a pup I would still go for a registered litter over a non-registered, one of those things I can't really explain, wheras my other half doesn't care so long as they are the breed we want.

Having said that we have had rescues and intend on getting more rescues in the future which never come with papers even if pedigree for obvious reasons.....

No it doesn't guarentee anything but I think was Debbie was trying to get accross was the hereditary diseases that can and should be tested for,so you know your puppy will be free from these and hopefully live a long, happy, healthy life without the conditions developing.

The KC also has a Health foundation fund,
Kennel Club Health Foundation Fund - The Kennel Club
Kennel Club Health Foundation Fund
26-May-06

Funds to develop new DNA tests for inherited conditions

This Fund is part of The Kennel Club Charitable Trust
It is designed to help Breed Clubs and scientists work together to develop research programmes that will result in new DNA tests for inherited conditions
The Fund will supplement money raised by Breed Clubs and Councils towards the cost of research.
Applications for funding will be assess by an independent panel and decisions will be based solely on scientific merit and the likelihood of a successful outcome.
Breed Clubs that are numerically small and have limited capacity to raise their own research funds will have equal access to future DNA research that will benefit their breed.

Another step in the right direction.

Hi, I wasn't being thick I do know exactly what Debbie's point was, and one that I wholly agree with.

My boy came from health tested parents and passed all of his own health tests before we picked him up (I have all the paperwork and graphs to proove he's a healthy specimin ) but as he's grown to be an adult he has started to suffer from allergies which affect his skin and coat which cost us a fortune to keep under control. He only has to roll in grass for 2 minutes and break out in hives and if he gets stung or bitten by insects he suffers from severe allergic reactions (we hate summer in our house lol).

So really the point I was trying to make is that all may look hunky dory from parentage and tests as pups but it doesn't guarantee anything thats all, but I agree that registered do give you a better idea. I know in my case I'm not talking about hereditary problems, because touch wood he is OK on that score!

they have been doing that for years, although litma has pedigree papers i joined him to the companion dog club, all you get is a number so you can go in to special companion dog club classes and a news letter.
its not a pedigree thing.

but is'nt that going against what people are saying on here ie crossbreeding?
if crossbreeding is so bad why would the kc have anything to do with it?
