I disagree, I have two KC registered dogs one of which can never be shown, she wouldn't make it in the ring she's not good enough, just don't cut it.

I go to ringcraft with my other one, so we'll see

I have showed one of my American Bulldogs & she did surprisingly well at the sanctioned shows for the breed, as did my OTB's.

Just because a dog isn't 'officially recognised' by the KC don't mean they are not pedigree dogs, or that you cannot show or breed from them

Dogs that are not KC do have their own registeries & those registeries hold sanctioned shows a few times a year

What are your thoughts on breeding from those?
This is a hard one for me to answer as i dont realy know the breeds well and what health checks they require.
But i think if they are a good example of the breed, have had health checks and are being bred for the correct reasons than i would say ok to breed but i also think you should endorce pups and again carnt do this with a none kc dog.

Re: I only have kc dogs?

ok just a thought along the lines of kc reg...kai was concieved because the dad got to his mum at the wrong time..( kc rules) ie mum had a litter too soon after the right time....now i know that kai's grandad is mia's dad, so going by bloodlines suerly would'nt he be as good as a kc reg? just a question...very interesting.

I don't know if it's possible to endorse an American Bulldog, as I have never bred from mine - I'm sure the ABA or the NKC could answer that though as they are the main registeries for the breed

Janice the reason i only get kc dogs is i like to check line, health checks and i like to have a litter if i think ive got a good breed standard

Re: I only have kc dogs?

I think its silly to write off a dog just because it is not kc registered. I mean, yes you can trace their history but it can also means inbreeding is more likely and more health problems due to this. unless you are planning on being a breeder or showing your dogs, i dont think it makes a real difference.

Re: I only have kc dogs?

it is hard...i always thort is not fare to breed from a non kc dog becoz we really dont know their backround etc...BUT...u do get people that buy kc reg dogs and dont botha registering them, then they get at anotha bitch or dog thats kc'ed...so we know their backround even tho the pup cant be kc registered.

Then them pups could be sold on and bred wiv a kc reg dog wiv good lines still making them good dogs but havent got kc papers

Then u do ave these silly people who breed from non kc reg dogs that they dont know the backround off and breed them that i dont like.

but non the less...all the pups once here deserve the best of loving

Re: I only have kc dogs?

Me and my other half have been called KC snobs by my brother & sister-in-law. Both ours are KC registered from approved breeders who we keep in contact with and are always there for advice. They are both pedigree Dalmatians but admittadly neither are show standard and certainly neither are good breeding stock. But we never wanted to show or breed and just wanted loving pets but I still wanted registered dogs. I like the security of knowing what I'm getting.

My brother & sister-in-law got a SBT a couple of years ago and it all sounded very fishy indeed, they didn't see mum, dad or litter brothers and sisters and no papers yet she cost them as much as a registered one would have.

Im sorry but i dont agree with you when you check your line back you check for inbreeding and health problems i would never breed or buy a dog with NO HEALTH CHECKS.
