We are looking into getting a Border Collie from a rescue ... But it seems where-ever we look they say that because we have children under 7 in the house we wont be considered

This really p***** me off , Toff is perfect with my two Grandchildren who live here , Louise is 5 and Jamie is nearly 3 ... both kids know the leave , sit, stay and down commands and use them to good effect with Toff (he's nearly 6 months old)
I tell this to all the rescue centre personnel I talk to , say training for both the dog and the kids with the dog would be high on my agenda with any dog/bitch we rescue, but the answers still no

Why ?

Guess we are gonna have to wait and save up some money and buy from a reputable breeder rather than save a dog/bitch from being in a rescue centre

That is exactly wat makes me sick....so many good people who can provide a forever loving family home are turnt down..for wat??? having kids...its understandable if the dog in question is obviously not good with kids,,, and i know people take a risk wile rehoming a dog but as long as the children ave been taught to respect a dog and both are monitored i really dont see a problem.

I know dog homes are doing a good job by taking in these poor souls but ffs they complain they are over run yet they are turning down good honest people who can home ones of these dear mites.

they make me sick as well, they give wrong type of dogs to wrong people and people willing to take on a dog they dont want to know.

best off seeing any in private rescue, i found a lot better, i found tess this way, she was rescued by a lady and was looking for a home for her, found out through a dog trainer i know.

I must say, these rescue centres, although in general they do a great job etc, they can be a bit over the top when vetting homes. When I rescued Tag, the lady that came to vet my home was very nice, thought we were a good prospect, but the old bat who delivered him was all in favour of taking him away again! He'd been in there 18 months already! There has to be a way of improving on this....
