Fingers Crossed

I'm taking my sheltie girl to the vet today. I'm due to go on holidays and want to confirm that she is NOT pregnant. I own a male and female and kept them apart, but I know there is always a chance because I came home one day and someone had not separated them. Apparently my son had come home and didn't realize that she was in season and that's how that happened. I was considering breeding her next time but not to my male I have a bi-black that I'm interested in using. That is if she gets an okay on her kneecaps, she's smaller 13 in. Eyes are good. She will be 2 this month and that is why she hasn't had her testing yet, my vet likes to wait until they are 2 for knees and hips. Well here's hoping....Jill

Re: Fingers Crossed

That all seems a bit complicated LOL I could be wrong but vets cannot ascertain if your girl is pregnant or not until they are about 5 weeks gone.

Are u planning to abort the pups?

Re: Fingers Crossed

No I wouldn't abort them she was in heat in May so is passed the 5 week mark. She doesn't look prego but because I'm going away I promised my daughter I'd confirm it with the vet. My daughter is coming to stay to watch and care for our family (animal) while we are gone. I'm not fond of kennels and the cats and dogs prefer to be in their home. Just erring on the side of caution as it will make a difference whether we go for 1 or 2 weeks....Jill

Re: Fingers Crossed

Didn't see a tie, cause as soon as I got home they were put in separate areas again. He's never been used as a stud maybe he did'nt know what to do.LOL My son feels like s*** as he wondered why they were in separate places one in the house one in the garage. He says from now on they will go back exactly as he finds them. He doesn't stop in that often, figures it would be when I wasn't home!! And from now on there will be a big sign on the door announcing the season, the sheltie is a very clean girl if you don't check her daily when she is due you wouldn't know she was in heat until she started to flirt...Jill

Re: Fingers Crossed

so you would not realy know what day into her season she was?
Male dogs seems to be able to produce stud dog or not.
On my cavs you can not tell they are pregnant til about 6 weeks.
The vet can scan her so you will find out the truth.
My cav boy is only 9 months and when of my bitches are in season he is crying to get at her(like got one in at the moment)i hope shes not as you were waiting for clear health tests before you bred from her.
Will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Re: Fingers Crossed

Hi,
Will your vet be doing a scan ?

Is there any reason why you wouldn't terminate ?

Just curious.....

Re: Fingers Crossed

Thanks all yes please keep your fingers crossed, I hope she kept her legs crossed.LOL I haven't had a litter of pups since 1992 when I bred my other sheltie and she had to have a cesarian and I had her fixed at the same time. I told the doc save the mom first any pups will be a bonus. She died in 2000 at 12, she was the best. The last time I had contact with her pups they were 12, that was in 04 and they were doing great. 1 looked just like her I cried like a baby. If she is pregnant I will be asking questions just to refresh memory banks, and if she is I hope she's like her mom and grandmom who only have 3 or 4 pups in a litter, the breeder I bought her from is actually excited as she was going to keep her as a breeder herself and may be interested in a pup. I on the the other hand am disappointed in myself for not telling everyone with a house key!!!Jill
