Can someone please tell me what a slip mating is?

Hope you get news though.
Ideally in every mating you would like to achieve a 'tie' this is when the bitch 'holds' the dog by the muscles in her 'bits', a slip-mating is when a 'tie' is not achieved. The male dog has bulbs in his 'bits' that are held by the bitch.

It'll be a few weeks before we know yet. I keep checking her for signs, but I'm useless at that in the early stages. Last time we mated her I was positive her nipples were enlarged and was sure she was pregnant - and then we took her for a scan and she wasn't!

I'll keep you all posted!

Thanks for that, i had a feeling thats what it meant but was just not too sure.

It shows how inexperienced i am with the breeding side of things, i have never even considered the possibility of a bitch being pregnant if a tie didnt occur..you learn something new every day.

In saying that all my dogs have been rescues and all neutered/spayed as part of the contract so not something i have had to deal with but still usefull to know.
