I have read many different opinions on whether a dog nead to tie in order to become pregnant. Many say the male needs to swell and therefore tie with the bitch to get her pregnant. True or not. My bitch was with the male 3 days in a row. The male is 2 years old and is a first times. He was a little lost. They did however get together once for about a minute but no tying. Is there a chance she could still get pregnant? Some breeders say their dog did some say it is not possible. Any opinions???

if it impossible...then how come of artifical insemination

its the bitch that swells to keep hold of the dog....i've know a few litters now been born without the tie. so it is possible

Yes its possible. Ive had 2 large litters with slip matings, as long as the dog ejaculates inside the bitch there is a good chance.

The dog has a gland at the base of the penis which swells and the bitch grips this with her muscles.

Sometimes an over excited or inexperienced dog swells before fully entering so a tie cannot take place. I have had this with my studs but just make sure they remain inside the bitch for a few minutes!

as long as he stayed inside for all stages of ejaculation then it is possible, but he needs to be held in my stud handler for a good couple of minutes after all pulsing and thrusting has stopped

yes as the others said bitches can get in whelp by having slip matings. you say the bitch was with the dog for 3 days?? i'm assuming you weren't supervising the matings, its not something i'd advise as they can get injuries if left unsupervised.

It was completely supervised by both owners, my husband and the males owner. We just had three seperate days where they were brought together. Both dogs were inexperienced. I know that was my biggest problem. I just really love the history of the male we chose. The male was just inexperienced and was having trouble finding where to go. He did ejaculate one time but pulled away from her in the middle of it. They were together for a minute or two. No swelling occured so they did not tie. I guess we will see what happends.
