Re: Breeding Dogs
Maybe before studding your dog out you should find out if he is KC reg as you have asked how to find out. Plus have his health checks done - what are the major health problems with CKCS??? I am not familiar with the breeds health issues and checks. Also please check the bitch out and ask the relevant questions of the owners before letting your family pet mate her. Studding out your dog is not to be taken lightly - please make sure you are doing the right thing.

Re: Breeding Dogs
CKCS should be MRI scanned for Syringomyelia,
They should have current clear Heart & eye certificates. MRI scans are about £200 plus VAT, Eye tests £27, & heart tests vary depending on the vet ,cardiologist.

Re: Breeding Dogs
Some of the breed problems are :
Heart Murmurs - get the heart checked at annual vaccination. The Cavalier Club is actively involved in heart research publishing a list of dogs and bitches aged five years and older that are free of Mitral Valve Disease. This assists breeders wishing to improve the health of the breed. Forms are completed by your Vet or Cardiologist, held on a central database and statistics made available to those engaged in researching the problem of heart murmurs in Cavaliers . Eye Defects - Can only be diagnosed by a veterinary opthalmologist who will certify dogs that have been examined under the KC/BVA Eye Scheme. Cavaliers can suffer from Hereditary Cataract or more likely Multifocal Retinal Dysplasia. Luxating Patella - This occurs in the back leg and the knee cap slips causing the dog discomfort. The condition is usually surgically correctable. |

Re: Breeding Dogs
Far too many people breed with their hearts and maybe the best of intentions but they do not see the bigger picture, the dogs in rescue, the heartache of owners when their beloved dogs has a health issue that more knowledge and care on the breeders part may have prevented.
