Aggresive nature

Hi,

Recently we had an apprasial rejected because our dog showed aggression towards other people.

The dog is well house trained and respects our command however when seeing other people she is aggressive and hard to control.

We've either got two options either to sort this out or to put her down. If we don't have her apprasied we cannot breed from her. She is a south african boerboul.

Is there anything we can do that will calm this aggresion down so she is viable for a new apprasial? Would it be even worth breeding her with our male boerboul who has an excellent temperant and does not show such aggression? Would the aggresion be passed on in the pups?

Sorry for so many questions but we are really worried at the moment and would appreciate your advice.

All the best,

Re: Aggresive nature

Sorry, I wouldn't breed from any animal that was displaying aggressive tendancies and I wouldn't reccomend that other people do it either.

I can't really offer any advice but I don't believe bitches or dogs should be bred from if they are aggressive towards humans. It is possible for this to be passed on through breeding.

Simba

I gather you are a member of the SABT?

Uncontrollably aggressive and fearful Boerboels are unacceptable.
This is taken from the website explaining the breed standard, so I seriously hope you do not breed her to your male. Rather than worrying about breeding from her (which I feel is a major issue reading your post) I would work on sorting her issues out. Obviously if you have been thinking about putting her to sleep which is something mentioned in your post, I can't see why you would even consider breeding from her anyway.

Good post and I totally agree with previous posters. Wrong idea to breed. Good idea to post and ask as long as you listen to the advice IMO

I know, we won't be breeding unless we get a good apprasial. The problem is she seems to be excellent towards us and especially our son who only visits once every fortnight however is very protective and aggresive towards other people, how can this be calmed? She was absolutely great in training and is 1 1/4 years old now.

Good to hear that first line of your post
Can I ask
How old is your dog?
Have they been brought up together?
Has she always been like this towards strangers etc?

Re: Aggresive nature

Have you asked other people in the breed what they think about her her issues? I know the Boerboel can be a terribly protective breed, but not overly protective in the sense that someone could get hurt in your presence. I have no idea what to suggest other than talking to either a behaviourist or people who are very experienced in the breed.

Sure, yes - we have three dogs. Two bitches, one boerboel (dog 1) and one bull mastiff (dog 2) and one male boerboel. (dog 3) Dog 1 is 1 and a quarter years old who is the dog in question. Dog 1 and 3 are taken out together and have gradually been introduced - they get on great now however as predicted if dog 3 was to go near dog 1's food she would tell him off.

Thanks - Yes, we've spoken to the person we purchased our bitch from and he is speaking to various different people if she can be apprasied again using a special collar so we're still waiting for news about that.
