Smile Bitch in Season

Our bitch has just come into season and its got me thinking about a few posts I've read recently, about how some people keep their bitch inside for 3(ish) weeks, to keep their bitch safe. This seems overkill to me as I've never found it necessary, I manage to change walk locations to less frequented areas away from other dogs - am I unusual, or with the norm? Answers in the poll please.

Re: Bitch in Season

I wasn't going to when our bitch came into season but we decided to have her spayed earlier this week so I won't have to make this decision now thank goodness. I think she would go crazy after 3 or 4 weeks staying in.

Re: Bitch in Season

When Dixie was on heat I walked her up the old industrial estate, and round the empty field by the river that no one used.

If I had a bitch in heat again now that we have a car I would go to an empty field. No one else around here uses the fields, and there really arent that many entire dogs here either.

Re: Bitch in Season

My bitches are happy with the garden when they are in season. We live in an area were there are a lot of dogs that are not on leads. I wouldn't call them strays as their owners are there they just have no control over them.

I also have a treadmill that I use for the bitches when they are in season so they don't miss out on any exercise.

Re: Bitch in Season

I kept my bitch in season on my property the whole time.

But we have a huge garden.

I rather be safe than sorry.

I know some dog owners who never ever take there dogs for any walks,in

season or not.

Re: Bitch in Season

I walk her, couldn't keep her inside for three weeks missing out on the physical and mental stimulation walkies provides, I've owned Cavaliers for 25 years and walkies has been a highlight of every one of their lives.

Re: Bitch in Season

it wouldnt cross my mind not to take a bitch out when it is in season. I agree that it is overkill and very unfair on the bitch.
