How old was your bitch - seasons

when she came into season for the first time?

Pippa is a cavvie and just over six months old. I've read The Book Of The Bitch along with many other articles.

The past few days she has been off her food which is unusual but no symptoms as such. Today on our long walk of the day we met 2 dogs who seemed overly keen on her, one she knows well as we often walk together.

As she spends 85% of her time off lead I'm going to stop this immediately - do you think I'm being over cautious? It's the first time I've owned a bitch.

Re: How old was your bitch - seasons

My Miss Piggy was 8 months before she went into heat!

Some dogs clean themselves so well that it is hard for the owner to know they are in heat.

When outside keep her on her lead. This will help avoid any accidents!

Re: How old was your bitch - seasons

Sky was in season when we got cotton at 10 weeks which was about 3 months ago. So that would have made her 9 months LOL

Sky never showed any symptoms! I didn't even realise she was in season until there was blood on the wooden flooring! Which was the day I brought Cotton home

It could have been really bad as Sky wasn't allowed on the beds etc so she could have become really jealous. Thank god she didn't!

Re: How old was your bitch - seasons

The collie and sheltie are 6 mth girls. The shih tzu is 11 months and haven't seen anything am assuming maybe she had a silent heat, but not sure. The little rescue was bred in June at 6 mths old (not by me) I rescued her in Sept she is in heat again now. Hopefully by Jan she is in good enough shape to be fixed....Jill

Re: How old was your bitch - seasons

Of the whippets Tegan had her first season at 10 months, Angel 12 months, Amber 15 months and Holly 13 months. I didn't have Freyja until she was 3 so I didn't have her when she had her first season.

Zoe the setter was 10 months when she had her first and Button the ex racing greyhound was 2 1/2 years old when she has her first. I had spoken to her breeder /trainer and she had never been suppressed as they do some bitches she just didn't come in season. This is common with whippets and greyhounds for them not to come into season until they are older.
