Zoe the setter was 10 months when she had her first and Button the ex racing greyhound was 2 1/2 years old when she has her first. I had spoken to her breeder /trainer and she had never been suppressed as they do some bitches she just didn't come in season. This is common with whippets and greyhounds for them not to come into season until they are older.
I meant to add both Angel and Amber were the last bitches in their respective litters to have their first seasons. In fact 6 months later Angel's sister was mated on what was her 3rd season she had a litter of pups by the time she was 18 months old. Not bred by me but by her owner who I knew wanted to breed but told me she would ask my opinion on a prospective stud before she used it and I found out that she had got pups when I saw them advertised on a certain puppy sales site. Needless to sau when I found out I was not happy and neither were the people who have whippets and found out she now rarely shows her dogs in our area she goes further afield
