Molly and Max are having babies xxx
Hello All
So glad i have found this place. I have two Yorkies, Molly and Max, Molly is 6 weeks pregnant, we had a scan on sat, and there are definately two little ones in there. She is well, just getting a little slower, and is resting more. She is quite big, and seemed to grow over night !!. She does not seem to have much of an appetite, which is worrying me, as the vet said she needs to double her intake. She has always been a fussy eater and i am having to cut out all her treats (much to her disgust) - i am giving her dried puppy food, and chicken, rice (which she picks the chicken out and she leaves the rice ) also cooked egg, and i soak bread in it. I have also heard conflicting info.....i have been told that yorkies can suffer from p/e and it is advisable to give calcuim supplment? have heard some breeder say they give a settlers 'tums' on the onset of labour? Of course, i will go by the advice of my vets, which is just to carry on as normal, increase food, monitor, and worm monthly etc.. Any tips or advice i would be most grateful xx |

Re: Molly and Max are having babies xxx
That is wonderfull news, yes she will balloon even more now over the next two weeks, she will look like a little barrel. I wouldnt give any calcium supplements, just give her her puppy food and chicken like you are doing, if that is what she is eating. I bought Mince and boiled that up and put some of that in with puppy dry food with a little of the water (little). Yes I have read about the Tumms, chewing them and giving them to the dog while in labour. I bought vanilla ice-cream and fed that to Teigan while she was in hard labour, and after each pup born. I also have a tube of Nutri-cal on hand and when Teigan had her pups I put a tiny bit on their tongues. It gives them a bit of a booste. I gave Teigan some aswell which helped her through labour too.
Keep this thread going to we can watch her daily progress and through the whelping, it is nice to follow mummy dogs and having her puppies. There are alot of people on here who will give you advice as you are progressing, and will stay with you as long as they can on the day of birth. Good luck hun.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx |

Re: Molly and Max are having babies xxx
Oh thanks So much - thanks for the advice, will deffo buy a tube of vanilla icecream, and give little bits. And the Nutri cal sounds fab.
She is getting very snappy with poor max - he only has to look at her and she is flashing her teeth... i know why she does it, Max is quite hyper and is bigger than molly, so she is just telling him no play. She has food at hand all day long, dry puppy food, yesterday she has an egg and bread, and chicken rice, and brocolli. We are on day 46.......when do you recommond constant watching? xxxx |

Re: Molly and Max are having babies xxx
Hi there,
My girl had a litter last week mine and her's first litter.Maisie has always been a picky eater even in the last 2 weeks of pregancy, I gave her sardines in tom sauce picked in with her puppy food and chicken mixed in with a little gravy. She did only pick, but she did eat eventually, I too was worried about her not eating enough. I kept giving her tit bits all the time!! Try hand feeding her, it worked with maisie Now she has pups she's eaten everything she can!!!!!!! good luck, its fantasic having a litter but very very very hard work!!! but so worth it xxxxxx just to add to that!!!!! ice cream is fab!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Re: Molly and Max are having babies xxx
Then I would watch her from day 52 onwards. Watch for the digging of her whelping box, and if she goes outside the back for a pee/poo on the day she starts then go out with her dont let her go out on her own, as she may feel the pushing stage and think she wants a poo and may give birth to a pup instead ok. Take a torch out the back when you go out there with her ok. Or you could put aload of paper down in the room she is in so you can keep an eye on her there instead. The link I sent you in PM will help you ok....xxxxxx
