Question Advice needed, is there a correlation between size of stud and puppy size?

Within an individual breed standard of course!! trying to compare studs at the middle and higher weights of a breed standard. Would love to hear any experience's on this, many thanks.

Re: Advice needed, is there a correlation between size of stud and puppy size?

My own personal experience, is on both our litter I used males that were middle range in the breed standard, mum is at the top end, in both litters we had larger males and middle size females. I think our female had more influence to be honest.

Don't know how true it is but I was always told that it depends more on the mother.

My female is at the lower end, stud is at the high end. Reason I am so interested is the stud now has 'clear' SM scans in 3 generation's - quite something!!! and the line is know for good hearts.

I would have thought if they are the same breed, and there is not a drastic difference in size, it shoulnt matter, males are usually bigger than females in any breed.

in my breed a larger breed it doesn't make any difference.
I suppose in a small breed it could be a problem, if mum was minute and dad was massive. i don't know for sure maybe someone who has a small breed on here could clarify it..

Re: Advice needed, is there a correlation between size of stud and puppy size?

Im with Cav on this one, as regards small breeds (not sure about larger breeds), but i will hopefully be mating my Cavaliers next year subject to health test results etc, so to play safe for my females first time i would opt for a smaller male, or at least one of the same size to hopefully prevent any birthing problems, i wouldnt be so worried if she had already had a litter but for a maiden i would deff go for a smaller male.

This is just my opinion and the way I will be doing things, I'm sure there will be more experienced breeders that can help too.
