Do You Think There Is Need For 'New' Breeds?

As the title really. Do you think there is any need for new breeds, or do you think people use 'new breeds' as an excuse for cross and 'designer' breeding?

Re: Do You Think There Is Need For 'New' Breeds?

i think that if it was to be for the better of the breed then yeah , u no like breed out inherited problems ,but if it is to just make money and is a senseless breeding then its a no no as there are so many breeds anyway

No,we have over 200 breeds breeds registered with the KC,everyone of which has been bred for a purpose, surely there is a breed to suit everyone without creating new ones.

Re: Do You Think There Is Need For 'New' Breeds?

We are bound to have new breeds in all the time as now we have the pets passport scheme we will be having a lot of breeds from over the pond. American water spaniels will be one of the next as I groom one which belongs to a friend of mine, the designer breeds I have no time for unless they are bred for a specific purpose that of guide dog or dog for the disabled etc. People that just make money out of them with no regard for the original breed type I am sorry but NO on epupz their have been Shar retrievers - shar pei x golden retrievers very pretty but what about the health aspects of the cross!!!!

Agree with you on this one and their are a few 'old' established breeds which are still not recognised by the KC

I see no need for any new breeds - agreed on the more well established breeds being recognised by the KC.
