What would you guys recommend, heat pad or heat lamp? Whelping area will be in my kitchen.
This is my 1st litter so advice is much needed please

we have always used heat pads!..The thing i find with heat lambs are they dry the air up imo! and pups cant move away from the heat there direct under it! atleast with the pad the pups if to hot can move to the other side of the welping box..

The idea of the heat pad it to creat a warm and moist enviroment!

thankyou that makes sense really, i was swaying more for a pad. I imagine heat pads are safer too, i have just read that heat lamps could be a fire risk and that heat lamp blubs can also shatter if they gets too hot!

I prefer the heat pads, the pups can move away from the heat if needed. The lamps can get hot and dry out the air around the pup and they cant move away from the heat like they can with a pad. That is my opinion only mind. xxx

NO problem! and yes i would agree it is the safest thing for them! The lamps can be effective if used correctly..but in this case a heat pad is all that is needed
