I have a 2 and a half year old lab bitch she seems to have been in season for ages. I have decided to put her in pup. We have been and visited a dog (first time for him) and they had a great time, played for about 45 mins then she started standing for the dog, but his aim was wrong! Day 2 arrived and was more productive, my dog stood but yelped as the other tried to do his job now she sits when he jumps her. is this nomal?

Re: Help with mating?
Totally agree with DH on this.
Have you had all the relevant health tests done on your Lab girl and has the stud dog had his? What are you trying to improve on with this mating? If you are having trouble with the mating are you prepared for the pregnancy and birth? Have you got homes lined up for the pups to be? Breeding 2 dogs is not about throwing them together to play and hope they mate - this could injure both male and female! |

Re: Help with mating?
hi there
May i suggest if your bitch is a maiden bitch she would be better with a proven stud . Sounds to me that she isnt ready yet hun believe me a bitch will let the dog know by flickin her tail sometimes even calling to a dog . I would advise you to get a good book on mating/breeding /whelping or look up all you can on the internet sorry have to ask like debby has your dog had health tests etc and have you checked out your studs? No asking to be critical hun its handy to get advise on these things Last edited by poochimama; 02-05-2008 at 12:22 PM.. |

Totally agree! You should always use an experienced stud on a maiden bitch otherwise neither knows what the hell they're supposed to do and it can end up in a very traumatic and scarring experience for them both. Buy the book of the bitch by Kay white, read that then think again, then you may decide its right for her next season

Re: Help with mating?
Thanks for replying, my bitch has been tested for everything possible, her hip score is well above average, the same goes for the dog. We both live in a very remote area,(ie lots of hours on boats and in cars etc) and working the dog is important to us both. Both dogs work well and we hope that off spring will also work well. We both have thought that the bitch might not be ready but advice is always helpful. Can I thank you for your positive reply.
