Puppy Contracts

Has anyone got any advice or examples that I could look at regarding puppy contracts?

I have always built up a good relationship with the new owners of my puppies and they have always promised to come back to me if they had a problem and could no longer keep their dog. However, I've heard some horror stories from other breeders and I'm now considering giving out a contract with each puppy, but I've never seen one and I'm unsure what it should include.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Re: Puppy Contracts

I think its a good idea espically with the insurance scams and things like that which happen now

I think it gives the new confidence too in the breeder so its a two way postive thing!

Re: Puppy Contracts

puppy contracts will be a very good idea, especially if you are at all worried about sending your pups out into the big bad world! when you make up the contract you want to be fair but firm with the contract conditions. you dont want to sound to over powering!

Re: Puppy Contracts

My pups would come with a huge contract, and if the potential owners aren't prepared to stick to the contract, they don't get a puppy simple as! They're too precious!

Re: Puppy Contracts

i completely agree, all contacts should always be seen by your legal rep, so that when the new puppy owners take the pup, they are legally bound by the terms and coinditions of the document. you must be very vidulent, fair and pick the right owners for your puppies anyway and not just give them to anyone that you dont trust. your puppies are precious and you wouldnt forgive yourself if anything happened, so a legal rep is certainly the right way to go when putting the contract together and when both you and the new owner sign the documents.
