I do agree with this, but unfortunately, there are (and I suspect always will be) those that think they don't have to, those that think it doesn't matter as their dog is a pet, those buyers who are deemed unsuitable as an owner by a responsible breeder and who are willing to go to a byb or puppy farmer for a puppy, those who don't like being questioned as to their suitability, those that think it doesn't matter and those that don't care.....

Re: So what's the issue ?

You could actually request that your scores do not appear in the Breed Supplement, I don't know if you still can? And you can check the status of any pedigree dog registered with the KC online on their health database. It's a bit 'unwieldy' but useful nonetheless.

I'm quite happy to post the score of an of my dogs, Indie has 3:3 hips, as already mentioned, her elbows were 2:1, one of the deciding factors in not breeding from her, she was also optigen tested and is clear/normal. Tau's got 0:0 hips and 0 elbows, is optigen cbp, and been tested clear for cnm. I will test the pups I keep from Tau, not just hip and elbows, but also optigen, as the genetic tests are not proven to carry cbp for several generations. Unfortunately there are dishonest breeders as well that make the cbp status unreliable through several generations.

I'm also happy to divulge my fairly limited knowledge of Labrador health, and pass people on to more experienced websites/people for further information. Much of my dog website is based around trying to educate people to buy a pup responsibly, or even go to rescues, and I'm glad to say I know of one person who definitely changed their mind and did research and buy a pup from someone who health tests and cares about the breed, rather than go and see a litter with an untested dam. I've always said if it changed the mind of just one person, then it is worthwhile putting all the information on there and trying to keep it up to date, and it has done just that

byb = back yard breeder, basically a small scale puppy farmer but certainly not a caring pet breeder type of person in my view

You won't actually have your dogs registered as belonging to you if you haven't sent the forms off. Did you get a contract of sale with them? I'd want them registered in my name so there would be no issue of ownership.

And you're not thick, you only find things out by asking, and I ask loads of questions, just not always on here.

Yes it should be discussed, but it always ends up with a member being vilified, and that does nothing to encourage others to ask questions and learn.
If these threads could be kept civil then many more dogs may be prevented from suffering

If people that came on here answered questions other members asked honestly from the start im 10000% sure these threads would stay civil.
