Re: Puppies puppies everywhere and not a home to go to!

not just dog, cats and other animals aswel.

this was on a letter, i go after filling out the forms.

Ok first of:-

The garden was NOT big enough (8ft x 10ft)
No experince: i have had pets all my life
Unable to travel:- I have family to drive me to collect, vets in 10 mins walk from my door.
I was employed
I wasn't earning enough, But myself and partner covered our own vet treatment.

I have helped out with rescues in the past, fostered, homechecked, and done transport runs and can only say what a fantastic job these people do
As someone said a few posts ago, being refused a rescue is no reason to fund a BYB or PF
These people work damned hard, walk a mile in their shoes I say then come back and slate them

Where have i, in my post............................................?

Did you actually get a homecheck or was it just on application?

If I or any of the other rescues I homecheck for I would not have any hesitation in at least homechecking you, it sounds like there was some underlying reason or this rescue has some very unusually strict policy.

I am not doubting that these people in rescue do a great job - I am only expressing and relaying my personal experiences.

As said before had I known then what I know now I would NOT have funded a BYB. Hopefully when we get round to adding a second dog to our family I have learnt enough to know how to go about it the right way.

I do not regret getting Poppy tho we love her more than anything and we are VERY responsible owners and did not take the decision to get a dog lightly, we considered it for a very long time.

Re: Puppies puppies everywhere and not a home to go to!

One final note from me for those who would like to volunteer in the future, here is just one of hundreds of rescues trying to combat the onging problem of dogs in the Pounds and in particular save many bull breeds.

Rochdale Dog Rescue Help Dogs on Death Row Find Safety & Finally Loving Homes

They are looking for volunteers up and down the country to help with transport runs and getting these dogs to safe rescue spaces.

No they did not even offer me a home check and they couldn't give me grounds as to why they did not accept me.

Re: Puppies puppies everywhere and not a home to go to!

Totally agree which is why I never let Harmony have a litter.

Also before I bought Marley from a well known breeder, I actually went around rescue centers, rspca, etc. I wont mention which particular center it was that said this to be but here goes.

Firstly they wouldnt let me have an older dog because I already have a dog and a 2 year old child. So, we found that some of them had puppies and that they will let us have pups, so we found some that we liked and kept going back to see them and chat to the staff (at this point they wasnt up for adoption but was out for viewing)

So we got all the stuff ready at home, bought a new fence and puppy proofed the garden, etc. Which all cost alot of money may I add. Then on our final visit on the friday (the pups went up for adoption 2 days later on the Sunday) I was stood in the reception talking to the staff, when one of the receptionists felt the need to tell me the pups were evil and been really really aggresive, etc. They then pegressed to tell me that If I cued up over night then I would get 1st choice of the pups, however if I took one I would be and irisponsible mother who was putting her child at risk!

Well what could I say to that? I asked some of the kennal staff and they told me that the pups were agressive more than the norm for a pup. What I dont understand is why it took for a receptionist to mention it and for me to ask before they told me? Grrrrr. lol.

Suppose the point I am trying to make is rescue centers make it impossible for people to take home dogs because of the way some of them are.

We decided against the pups because I couldnt live with myself if sumet happened to my daughter or Harmony after having been warned about them. Thing that annoys me is that some of the olderdogs showed no aggression but because of "rules" and "age" they wernt allowed to come home with us.

That's one of the biggest problems when rehoming from the large 'centres' don't get me wrong they are fabulous, but the problem with 'kennel' dogs is that the rescues concerned have to have even stricter policies as unfortunately in kennels you cannot get a good idea of personality due to the undue stress the dog is under.

Many smaller rescues use foster homes, this is a far more natural environment and over the course of fostering you get to know the dog properly and can guage personality, and likes and dislikes.

However, these smaller charities get far little publicity so of course, people looking for a rescue animal turn to the likes of Wood Green, Battersea, RSPCA and Dogs Trust for example.

If anyone is looking to rehome a dog, then please feel to PM me, I am more than happy to point people in the right direction and help get some unwanted dogs into loving new homes.
