Mastitis

Not sure if we are starting to get a touch of Mastitis

Her two back udders (definitely not teats with the size of them) are very full of milk they aren't particularly hot but don't seem to be being used by the pups, I have been putting hot flannels on them to try and soften them although they don't seem to be particularly hard just not expressing milk when I manipulate them. I tried today to put a pup on to those nipples but it just moved away to one of the ones that is not nearly as full and seemed happy there. She also has a slight lump on part of the flesh which was quite purple in colour yesterday but is normal today.

She sits when she is feeding and the pups can't get to the lower nipples so I can't get them used that way either - the only thing I managed was this evening feeding her by hand so she stood and the puppies seemed to feed off at least one if not both of those nipples.

Any suggestions before I take us off to the vets tomorrow?

Re: Mastitis

You are doing the right thing re the hot flannel. If the pups are avoiding the back teats try and cover the other ones with tape or similiar so they need to go to the back. Keeping the Milk flowing will help.
The purple lump imo may have been a puppy sucking the skin? Also check around her back teats for any small cuts maybe caused by puppies claws as this can cause Mastitis
