pregnancy signs.......

9 months for humans and 9 weeks for dogs.

i took my chi to be mated 10 days ago and am looking forward to finding out if she is pregnant. yesterday she was sick and i have never seen her do this before........could this be the equivalent to morning sickness, she has also lost a few ounces in weight....any one?

Re: pregnancy signs.......

Dogs get morning sickness like humans so its pretty normal.
Is this the bitch who you had concerns over the pedigree?

omg no, she is only a pup. its my other one, the fawn one. i found a young lad for her that only weighed 2.6lbs, a whole pound less than her!

he is a proven long hair and tends to throw large litters of white pups so hopefully we will have no problems.

she has become very very docile and loving and puked up yesterday so i have everything crossed

Re: pregnancy signs.......

I'd say it was definately a good sign.
They do tend to sleep alot more aswell.
They can also go off their food from time to time so dont worry if that happens either.
Fingers crossed!

Re: pregnancy signs.......

There is a huge demand for chihuahuas (cant spell) its all down to stars and their handbag dogs, they are selling for crazy money and theft and dodgy dealings is probably highly likely.I have a chi x toy yorkie i bought her from a lady who looked a bit dodgy shes around 9 and can be a bit snappy so god knows what happened to her,i felt sorry for her,i think she was used for breeding, she has a heart defect and is on daily medication.

i am breeding from my other chi as my sister and a friend have been trying to get a pup for ages but the prices are so high, some will charge £3000

you wouldnt believe the trouble i had finding a pup under £1000!! i paid nearly that for the one i got recently and she is an adult, and apparently no pedigree now. i am so angry. i am going to aske the original owner to send my money back or i will go to the police with the proof that she has forged a vets signature etc.

my pup has been badly treated as she is very timid and scared, she is getting better now i have had her for a month. she was under weight too, poor thing. all they want is a bit of love and food

Re: pregnancy signs.......

To me 10 days after mating is a bit early to notice any signs of pregnancy. With my girls it is usually about 3 to 4 weeks before you can notice any signs, I have always found the best indication to be a clear/opaque discharge at around 5 weeks but before then it can be quite difficult. With regards to you feeding her differently now I again usually wait until they are 5 weeks pregnant to change to a puppy food as they dont need anything extra before this time.

i wasnt on about visual signs as i know thats a way off yet. just the little signs like being sick and off food in early pregnancy. its nearly 2 weeks now and she is sleeping a lot more even with a mad 9 month old to play with

Re: pregnancy signs.......

you have to be carefull giving an adult dog puppy food as it contains a lot of protien and can be dangerous to adult dogs and in some cases fatal. they do make food for pregnant bitches which is far safer, when my bitch was in pup i fed her more frequently with smaller sized meals she wasnt so sick that way. good luck i ended up with 10 rotti pups
