Weaning Puppies

I have two litters of pups aged 3 weeks and 17 days. I have introduced first litter to baby rice mixed up with whelpi and boy do they gobble it up. Second litter just doesn't seem interested. Am I doing something wrong or is it they are just not ready for more solid food

Re: Weaning Puppies

I probably would start weaning until at least 4 weeks in any case - there is plenty of everything in the bitches milk, and it seems a waste to not give them the best stuff when it's free, and the bitch no dounts feels that it's her job.

So unless the litter is huge for the breed or the mother is finding it difficult, just leave her to it and hold the food until they need it.

Re: Weaning Puppies

my pups are nearly three weeks and for a few days mum is hesitant about going in with them they are scraching her to bits so i have introdused them to readybrek made with whepi milk and they are loving it then she goes in and lets them feed off her.
