Smile Re: first time breeder - advice please

you can get books about breeding from amazon. a good book to look for is the book of the bitch £7.49, complete book of dog breeding £6.39, buy them together for £13.88!
there are lots of books about breeding dogs, but i reccommend these, they are very helpful. there is also a dog breeding book for dummies. you should also have a look on ebay, you may get a better deal on breeding books!

Re: first time breeder - advice please

id say read up all u can hun ..look what tests u need get a good bitch from a reputable breeder and be aware of the risks and costs and of course the hard work that goes into having a litter of puppies.
I agree with sallyanne... its hard when u lose any babies my molly had 4 pups but lost one before the first week was out ...i was really cut up the other 3 are right little tykes now LOL
Next hurdle after the actual breeding is probably the most important of all... finding them good responsible new homes....that in itself is a minefield ,you can get some right shady characters wanting pups.

Re: first time breeder - advice please

I thoroughly agree with everything Sallyanne has said. I just have one more piece of advice - look into breeder's insurance. If anything goes wrong, it won't be covered by your normal insurance - and you can bet your life that if something is going to go wrong it will be in the middle of the night and it will be very costly. Our emergency vet is 15 miles away, and it costs £125.00 just to get across the doorstep - that's without the cost of consultation, treatment, c-section etc.

Having said that, you sound as if you are going about things the right way - good luck!
