Exclamation URGENT timing advice - PLZ help!!!???

Firstly HI 2 everyone!!

Please can someone advise urgently??? - I have a Great Dane bitch who is in season now and I have a fantastic stud dog lined up.

The problem is this - the first sign of her season was last night when my friend was visiting with her 2 neutered male boxers she was flirting unbelievably and this was the first sight of both behaviour and discharge - which was a very dark almost brownish red.

So I emailed the stud dog owner to arrange the visit approx 10-15 days time from now but then today her discharge almost seemed non excistant until this evening when I dabbed her with tissue only to discover that it is all of a sudden a very pale almost straw colour (as described in literature I've read to be the time to now mate her!).

The thing is the stud dog owner is away from home tonight so I cannot get her advice and I have to travel from Poole in Dorset (south coast) to West Wales for the mating and I am really concerned about missing the 'window'!!

Is it possible that due to her being so very clean that I have missed the lead up to the ovulation stage or am I panicing uneccessarily????

Last night when she bled, she was dripping everywhere (as I remember my last dane did for her whole cycle) but there has not been a sign of any discharge before last night and seemingly not particularly since either??????

PLEASE please could someone advise asap - like tonight pretty please?? As if I can catch this season by rushing up to Wales tomorrow (all being well with the stud dog owner!) I will do so but cannot afford to do this if it is not in fact neccessary and a second trip is then required!

Thanx guys to any help you can offer me!!

xxx

i'm sure there is a bloodtest you can have done at the vets which will tell you she is ready to mate!

Hiya! Thank you - turns out panic is over! I feel so silly! lol

I believe I have been 'dabbing' at the wrong times all day and catching her after cleaning and where she is being so clean not getting an accurate 'reading' - I have just found rather a lot of fresh dark red-brown spots all over the upstairs cream carpet! DOH

Nevermind hehe!

So looks like we are on for 10 ish days time after all! phew!

Could be more into her season then you think - you can get a fertility test at the vets - how old is she?

Re: URGENT timing advice - PLZ help!!!???

Oh can you? Is that a blood test they do or can you actually obtain tests you can do at home yourself?

Sorry to sound so thick - I am an experienced dog owner and groomer but have never bred a litter before and only plan to do it this once!

She is 2, I realise only just old enough by the guidlines but wish to do it the once and have her spayed - have sought a lot of advice and most breeders I have spoken to deem her age acceptable - only had one say no they wouldn't let their stud mate her.

She is in fantastic health too and due to Dane life expectantcy and having kids myslef I am looking to do it while she is young and healthy and whilst I am guaranteed at home 24/7 for care of her and her pups

Thanx 4 ur input - gratefully recieved xXx

Re: URGENT timing advice - PLZ help!!!???

Ring you vets in the morning and ask them about the test.

First time I tried to mate my bitch I missed and she wouldn't let the stud anywhere near her, it was really disappointing after all the planning I had put into it. I think it was only about day 11 or 12 but she was obviously an early one. Next time I went on day 7 and 9 and it worked, so if you have to travel it would be probably best and more cost effective to get her tested.

Hi and Welcome I have picked this out of your post as I was slightly concerned. If you cannot afford to make a trip down and then another trip you may struggle financially if your Bitch has complications.
Also it is advisable to mate a Bitch then mate again 2 days later
Out of curiousty can I ask why you are breeding your Bitch
