Smile The Journey Of A First Time Litter

Thought i would start a thread for the count down of candy and her inpending labour.

Just means i have somewhere to come and panick to quickly

we are on day 51. so have 12 days left.

Her lady bits are starting to swell more (noticed this, this morning when we went for a walk) she is losing mucus (clear) grooming herslef more, sleeping more, gets tired very quickly (thats a downside i'm getting bored not having to entertain her all the time )

She refuses a walk sometimes i get the lead out and normally shes at my feet waiting for it to be put on. if i get it out and she doesn't want to go out she puts herself to bed shich tells me she doesn't want to go!

my heatpad isn't here yet but i only ordered it yesterday should be here by the weekend. have a box full of paper and sheets and towels. whelpi on my wardrobe in case i need it (will use it at weaning if i dont use it for pups before) i have whelping kit, scales, torch everythind i think i need. stair gate is under the stairs and will get put up in the dinning room doorway once she gos into labour i think we are ready!

My dad made one for me. He used to make whelping boxes for Newfoundlands so mines small he said compared to them yet mines 3ft by 4 ft

hers a picture of it. (has a door i can slide into place as well when the pups are in with mum or on their own.)

IMG_5089.jpg

it is also lined with a water proof matting that i can take out and wash. the white aound the top is plastic strips so there are no sharp edges and the puppy rails are slats from my daugthers ould cabin bed which are pine.

i now have the room temp thing stuck to the front of the box and i need to make a hole in a corner for the heatpad lead to go through. it comes apart in 5 pieces so i can store it if i want too. I might just pass it on if i dont get candy's paperwork she wont be having anymore. that also depends on how well it fairs!

EDIT: the dog beds will be coming out next week!

she had two

The vet moaned when i took her on day 28 incase she took on the second mating becasue she wouldn't see anything. but i saw a pup before she did on the screen as soon as she put the dobbler down so i asked her when candy too and she said she took on the first mating.

i asked for a 4ft sq dad laid it all together and said thats going to be two big so made it 4ft by 3ft and it only just fit in my car (put together) and i could get 3 full grown dogs in it easy!

so the 3ft by 4ft is perfect for candy and her pups (as long as she doesn't have 18!)
