border collie

Posted this on the dog chat but then thought that it should have been on this one!! So bear with me those who have already read it. My 13 week tri border collie does not look like a border collie. In the last 2 days 3 people have asked me what she is crossed with. I saw both parents and sisters (sisters were typical black/white and fluffy) but Cassie does not seem to have much fur. Also her ears are very erect and look too big for her head!! Will her fur grow long and when does this normally happen?

Re: border collie

have you got any pictures of her, not all border collies have long coats you can have 3 different types of coat on a collie I have a long coat border collie and a short coat border collie so I wouldnt worry about that and my long coat one didnt really have her full coat until she was well over a year old.

As for her ears there are various types of ear shapes and positions as well eg. some fully erect some half erect and so on, so again that wouldn't be of any concern to me. Some pups also go through a odd looking stage where they dont look quite how they should but soon grow into their ears and long legs etc hope this helps a bit. But if you do have some pics it would be good even if its just so we can awwwwwww after her

Re: border collie

ha ha Ok thats fine kids are handy for the technical stuff arent they lol, I had a litter of pups here and they had two different coat types so it is possible, some people only think of collies with the long coat and assume that the dog must be a cross if its short so perhaps thats why they have commented on her I have had the same thing happen in the past

Re: border collie

I had two borders, brother and sister, Leigha the bitch sounds just like your one when she was a pup, her ears were to big for her head and they stood up for a while until she was a little older they flopped over, it was comical when she stood them up to listen, she was short haired smokey grey and white her brother Ffione was tri coloured longer haired.

Looking forward to see some pics

Re: border collie

I once took my show bred greyhound to a gamefair. If I had a pound for everytime someone asked what he was crossed with I would have come home very rich lol. They were insistant that he was too big to be a greyhound so must have been a lurcher.

Some people think they know everything but don't I wouldn't pay much attention to them. I don't know a lot about border collies my friend has them but I would say she looks like a full border collie.
