Post first litter due in 3 weeks

Hi I have a cocker spaniel she is 2 1/2 and her first litter is due in 3 weeks, she has just started to put weight on her sides and now walks with a bit of a waddle she is in good health, I have started to feed her puppy food, she has loads of energy but has started to run off when on a walk and not come back for a while this has happened a couple of times and I am now thinking that it is best to keep her on a lead for the time being, we are really excited and cannot wait for the pups to arrive but also scared and want to get every thing right for her, any advice would be really welcome

I think I would probably lead walk her for now, a real good book to get out of the library is The Book of the Bitch great book lots of detail and wouldn't be without it. Will give you details of whelping boxes etc good luck when they arrive. BTW what puppy food you got her on?

Hi with only 2 1/2 weeks to go she shouldnt be running no where. Keep her on the led and cutout all strenuous exercise. The whelping box should b available for her to get use to by now.Good luck.

Re: first litter due in 3 weeks

I allow my bitch to run around when she is expecting a litter, by the last week she starts to move more slowly, I was told by everybody to stop riding my bike when I was pregnant, on checking with my doctor, he said it was rubbish, that you should continue to do what you had done before.

However i do agree that if she is running off to keep her on a lead or line when out for a walk.

Good luck with your pups, I hope all goes well.
