How Big a whelping box?

How big a whelping box for my Dalmatian?

Ok I know I don't know if she is in pup yet but trying to be organised enough so once I know I can go straight into everything and not have to worry about if I have got enough space here or there I know excatly where everything and one is going.

I have a gap in my dinning room that is just over 4ft long and wide. Will this be big enough for a whelping box for mum and hopefully all her pups? I want her to have space as well so its not crampped.

My dad is going to make the whelping box. so I was thinking 4ft square with 2ft high walls a foot high on the front so Candy can get in and out and the rails. would this be ok do you think?

any help would be great I like to be ready for things i'm not one to wait. Most people moan about how organised i am but i like it! lol

Re: How Big a whelping box?

Hi, I think that will be just fine
With demi I had planned to use the fireguard she was using as a pen, put some cardboard around it to stop drafts and build a rail.... But she had them early! Lol
I have since made her a diy bed from 2 cardboard boxes and used an old cd rack as a rail.. but am getting a load of wood off my papa to make a pen for when the pups get bigger.
