hi, i'm hoping someone with experience can give me some advice. my miniature poodle bitch was due to whelp on monday but so far nothing has happened, so she will be 4 days late tomorrow morning. how common is this? when should i start to panic? any advice would be appreciated

if she's that late i would take her up the vets.
could be something wrong, just to be safe

Some bitches will go over the due date.One of mine went over by four days.

Personally I would get the vets to check her over,to make sure the pups are ok.If it's a small litter there may not be enough pups to stimulate her going into labour and may need a section.

Im glad your vet found her to be fine.

How many times was she mated? as this may effect her due date, her eggs may have been fertilised a day or more after the mating. Also the sperm can remain active for up to several days which could be a factor.

Have you been taking her temp? Normal temp is between 101 and 102.5 Fahrenheit , there is usually a drop in temperature (below 100 f) 24 hrs before she whelps. Usually quite a reliable indication.

thanks for that, she was only mated the once, i'm hoping it is the sperm retention thing. i have been taking her temperature for over week and the vet did it yesterday and it's been normal throughout

we have a temp drop, off food and wanting to pee, i think the waiting is over!!
