Heat pads for puppies

Hi, my cousins dog is having puppies in 2 weeks.. and her vet is very happy with her progress.. but she forgot to ask her if she does need a heat pad for when they are born??

I know pups cant control their body temp for 1st week or so, n her house isn't that warm so do you think she should get one?

She hasn't got the internet so when she found out I was on here, she pretty much demanded I become her go between.

It is her dogs 1st litter. Not really sure on all the details as we haven't been in touch for a few months until today. I didn't even know she had a dog! lol

Re: Heat pads for puppies

Your cousin is a cousin to be proud of - thank god she found her.
I have not been on the forujm much tody - late last night - for some daft reason I was on Home for www.manytears.co.uk webiste - I was a little upset about my dog I lost in march 2008 and was reading the Rainbow bridge section on there - I read the story of the boxer that was dumped on a mountain - having been found a few days later - she had had a litter and one pup was still inside -for some reason this has really got to me - i am so so upset about this - thank god for people like you cousin -may they be rewarded handsomly one day - if not in this world then in the next.

Re: Heat pads for puppies

I use one metal and one plastic ,both are electric and have fleece covers. You can get heatpads on ebay from petnapltd.I have also kept heating on 24/7 I don`t want my puppies to get cold even if i`m hot.I will use the metal one when I bring my pups into playpen to start with and will take away when they are about 5 weeks.
This is a cold winter so take care.
