Help, is this normal or should i worry?

My girl is 51 days pregnant today and very large with puppies.
she gave up eating around a week ago and i have tempted her and managed to get her to eat by adding scrambled egg, grated cheese or gravy to her food.
She is now really off her food and today vomited up a little milk i give her with her daily wormer and has very loose stools, diarreah but only been twice.
Because she has never had additions to her royal canin dry i think it is the eggs, cheese, chicken add ons that are causing the runny poo but if i dont add them she doesnt even go near her food. She is turning down all her usual treats like pigs ears and biscuits and just walking around with them.
Is it more important she eats even if the additions upset her tummy or is it ok to starve her a day if that is what she wants?
I would happily take her to the vets but from what i read this can be normal in the late stages. Dont want to not react if this could become a danerous situation. How long can she not eat for???

It may be normal behaviour but you should really get her checked by a vet as there could be all sorts of different reasons.
Don't take the risk!

I agree you should take her to the vet for a check up, it can be quite normal for bitches to go off their food at this late stage as they just don't have the room any more, also try her small but frequent meals instead see if that works, don't forget she will feel full very quickly.

Also you said your feeding her Royal Canin, are you on the breeders scheme, as their Starter feed for bithces in whelp and weaning is brilliant food, my three girls and all their pups thrived on it.

take care

Sarah

Hi, i am not on the breeders scheme but bought Royal Canin starter from the vets which she starts on tomorrow.
i have now resigned myself to cooking fresh for the lady and i have been told that dairy could cause the runs so thats out!
She has mince for tomorrow and i got her to eat some tuna, saw some interest when i was making my sandwich!!!
thanks for all your advice. I look at her and cant see how she has any growth room left and she has 13 days left!!!

On the issue of the vet, i took her on Saturday for a check up (nervous owner)! They said she was very full of puppies for her size but all was normal so i didnt want to rush her back, they are starting to think i am paranoid!

it does seem a little early for her to be going off her food, my little girls have even eaten whilst in first stages!!! when you say her daily wormer , are you worming her daily??? there is a time in the pregnancy which is very dangerous to give any tablets of any sort which is usually from day 42?

She is on a panacur liquid which she has from day 40 till 2 weeks after she has whelped. It is safe in pregnancy. She has drontal normally.

I think it is a little early but she has just eaten tuna and got the bounce back. i get the impression she has no appetite and doesnt realise she needs to eat. she was really lethargic today as didnt eat all day but now she has she is lively again so i will just have to tempt her i guess. She really is big though. i can see her original figure but it is like a rugby ball swinging tightly below.

Jens is on a distinguished road
Re: Help, is this normal or should i worry?

This is quite normal. Our bitch was the same and she eats whatever and whenever she can. AT ALL TIMES!! Are you feeding her puppy food?

This tends not to weigh too heavy on them as she wont have much room left now.

Keep any eye on her as she will prob go early. Sickness etc is a sign of this but 11 days is a bit too soon. Keep her off the chicken and give her plenty of tuna and cheese. Ours loves chicken but near the end she couldn't stomach it.

Re: Help, is this normal or should i worry?

Thanks Jen, i suspect she will go early, just not sure how early!
She is eating puppy food, natures best mixed with some royal canin starter. she is often sick after eating a bowl of food so it really is an art and being aware of what has stayed in!
tuna is good and as she has no interest in anything dried, i think it takes up too much space i am going to leave her on natures best puppy only from today to reduce the vomiting.
Love her, she is so uncomfortable and tight. No milk in yet so i am waiting for that indication and hope to keep them on the inside for a bit longer.

it isnt good as gestation only being 9 weeks they come out fragile enough, they are unlikely to survive if they come any more than 5 days early.
