Re: small male yorkshire terrier to stud
Welcome Jenny
![]() Can you answer my question about Blue temperament? Was my Hubby's Blue Yorky unusual, or is there a general problem with Blue Yorkies? Or certain lines? He was a little so&so by all accounts!!! Though Hubby loved him . |

The best thing you can do if you want to learn about breeding and standing dogs at stud is to get involved with the breed. You will find the Yorkshire Terrier breed clubs listed on the Kennel Club website. They will have shows/seminars/meetings where you will get the best advice about a) your dog and his potential as a stud and b) breed specific advice. You will have time to learn as the current financial crisis means that responsible people are cutting back or delaying any breeding for now. IMO using a dog at stud requires a lot more experience than having a litter, so should really only be done by experienced breeders. If you just want your boy to sire a litter and leave it at that, then I would advise against it. If he is a pet, it could cause changes in character and temperament that you will regret. |

Re: small male yorkshire terrier to stud
Thanks for replying Jenny
![]() The Yorkie I talk about was my OH's and his Ex wife's. He was an adult rescue and they were his last chance because of his agression, so the cause of his aggression wasn't known. However a little research by ex-wife found some dog's he was related to also had poor temperaments. Hubby's thoughts are that the dog was bred for colour to the detriment of temperament, but he has no real evidence for that. Having not met a Blue myself, seeing your post made me curious about Blue temperaments in general. Your boy sounds an absolute sweety though As mentioned by Dundee, you do run a very real risk of his temperament changing if you let him mate so you need to bare that in mind![]() |

Re: small male yorkshire terrier to stud
ok well ive thought it though, and i have a baby who is just short of 1 year old, and he is an absolutley adorable dog, the yorkie i had before was a lovely dog but not good with children, so ive decided im not going to stud him, he is like my baby and i couldnt forgive myself if i had to give him away if he turned on my baby after studing him. and for a quick £150/200 its not worth it. reading through the forum though i was thinking of getting another yorkie and will be looking through rescue centres rather than buying from a breeder. can anybody tell me if i buy a female yorkie and i get bobbys spade if thats what its called will this change him atall? hes a hypo little man and i mean he literally doesnt stop lol. jenny

Re: small male yorkshire terrier to stud
When we got Zipper neutered it didn't change his personality.
It did stop him humping everything though ![]() Lots of people claim it calms them down - yes it can reduce their "sex drive", but they calm down with age anyway. |
