Housetraining issues in pregancy

Hi
I have a pregnant pug, only 4 weeks. Already she has some classic pregnancy signs, went off her food at 21 days and has left some clear, slimey deposits, lovely!
Anyway, a couple of questions as although i have read everything there is to read nothing is as useful as the answers of the experienced.
She is clearly showing a curved tummy already. Is this normal at 4 weeks for a pug/small breed. I thought i was imagining it but she is very swollen.
Also, house training has become a nightmare teh last week. She will poop anywhere in the house where she was perfectly trained prior.
Any advice on correcting this or is it normal? thanks for your help

Re: Housetraining issues in pregancy

If she is having quite a few pups then its normal for her to start showing at this time. They normally start to show around 5/6weeks but in a small breed like a pug it may be earlier.
Like you say if she has already started to show early maybe shes quite full of pups and needs to go to the toilet a bit more often. Most dogs house training lapses a little when theyre pregnant, maybe give her more access to the garden, or crate her to see if she can help it or if she just can't hold it in!

If she is house trained and she is now pooping in the house, then there is a reason for it. In my opinion confining her to a crate would be cruel. I think it's just something you'll have to live with until she whelps. You could take her out more often and make sure you don't leave her too long, and confine her to a room which is easily cleaned for overnight and when you do have to go out.

think u will just have to live with it until the pups arrive. cant expect a bitches behaviour to not change when u allow her to breed.

Re: Housetraining issues in pregancy

House training issue resolved! She is weeing every 20 mins so i have put down puppy training mats and she is using them when caught short. Mind she did disgrace me in the pet shop the other day. Stood in a queue at the till and she has to wee, so she did! A non absorbent concrete floor! All i could say was, i am so sorry she is pregnant!!!! Lame but valid excuse i thought.
The vet wouldnt commit to numbers from the scan but said he saw around 5 so may be more. She is 5 weeks and very big already!
