Well its nearly that time!
I think I blinked becasue i am sure I only just got floss! Shes a year old in 21 days!!!! time to get organising her Hip and Elbow score!
I went into the Vets today and it will cost £220 and that includes the BVA. I already have spoken to the people i want her to go with all everything goes to plan next year. Its a Tyrodal one of their NUA boys. The likelihood is Floss will only have 1 litter in the UK. as we are emigrating (or hoping too) in 2016 Floss has turned into a Beautiful little lady. stands like shes being judged most of the time! She Barks once at the back door so it is opened for her. She carries her blacket and toys into the front room you put them all back in the toy box and she takes them all back again! she makes us laugh. Fingers Crossed that next month's Floss Hip and Elbow scores go to plan. IF anyone knows someone that does it cheaper then please let me know. I dont mind paying out but where we can save some costs be nice. ![]()

I wish you good luck but have to ask what the rush is to get the tests done - I assume you won't be breeding from her until she is at least two? |

Re: Well its nearly that time!
no she will be 2 or older just as candy was, dont believe in doing it sooner in any shape or form.
There isn't a BIG rush. Its always been said to me by many breeders that the best time to hip score is around 12 months sure i read it somewhere too. I'm not going to do it BANG on turning one. Just looking at the prices so i can get it Saved up ready. it will probably be done more into the spring / summer. But its still nearly that time!

My three lowest hipscores have been from dogs scored at 18 months, 2 years 5 months and 18 months scoring 4/3, 3/4 and and 5/4 respectively and all zero on elbows. A friend of mine took her boy at 13.5 months - his elbows were fine, but the vet told her if she sent the plates off now, he would come back over 20 - he was eventually scored at 2.5 and came back 6/6. There's a reason why they don't score in the States until 2 years and this is because they are still developing and their joints 'settling'. Similarly, my girl with the high hips, both sides were high - but one was much higher than the other - we had her plates done again at 2.5 - the general consensus was that if she had been scored then - the overall score would have been the same - but her bad hip had deteriorated, whereas her good hip had ''settled' and likely to come back lower. I also know of dogs that have been scored in the UK and had hips below the breed average - but not perfect who have gone overseas at 5 years old and had 'A/A' hips - i.e. below 4 in total. Good hips don't deteriorate that quickly if they are good to start with - if you look back over our database during the early days of the scheme - there were MANY dogs scored at 6,7,8, 9 and 10 all scoring 0/0 - if hips deteriorated as we suspect, these dogs should have been well up in the 20s+ given their age Last edited by swarthy; 04-02-2012 at 06:21 PM.. |
