Best date for mate?

Hi everyone, I've had my Saarloos 2 years now and am going to mate her. I'm not a breeder, this is my first time and this will probably be her only litter. I know the puppies will go to good homes, but I'm just after a bit of advice: When during her season is the best time to have her mated? She is in day 12 at the moment, the blood has turned a yellow colour and I am told that this would be the best time- is this right? She was mated 2 days ago but they didn't lock, so we thought it best to try again today. Is she likely to catch or is it too late/ early?
Many thanks.

Fair enough! Didn't think about it like that, just don't want people thinking I'm some kind of backyard breeder. I care about Angel waaaay too much to jepordise her health! How did you know your girl was ready? x

Breeding just one litter is risking your bitch's health. Some bitches can have difficulties through whelping and raising the puppies, such as mastitis. Personally, I wouldn't breed.

I understand you have a wolf dog. What are you mating your girl with? Do you have responsible, experienced owners lined up for the puppies? I'm sure you need to be a experienced person who can raise a wolf dog correctly.

Re: Best date for mate?

My girl is a floosie! Each season when she is ready, she desperately tries to escape from the garden to go on the pull, so to speak Apart from that, its very difficult with her, she bleeds the entire season

Think very carefully about why you are putting her through it. Are you prepared for blaming yourself if it goes wrong? Its not something I thought about, it always happens to others doesn't it? Well it can and does happen to you. Fortunately, my girl is OK but she had a rough time and we lost 2 pups and had to revive a third. It could have been a whole lot worse

Re: Best date for mate?

Hi, I am aware of the risks of breeding, am fully prepared and have done extensive research into mating, raising puppies, risks and complications and if for any reason Angel were to reject pups/ not produce enough milk I have hand reared puppies before successfully (Mum in law is a breeder).
I have owners lined up, whom I can trust to be responsible. I have been researching for nigh on a year now. I'm not an irresponsible person.
I do understand that not everyone is pro-breeding but I feel that I am doing the right thing.

I'm glad you have researched and are doing this responsibly. People do come on here wanting to breed without doing any research at all, so we do ask questions.

What breed is she mating with?

I`m finding this post slightly bizarre (sorry). How on earth could anyone answer your question?

Re: Best date for mate?

I'm after personal experiences rather than a "you must breed your bitch at x days into the season" Just wondering how much it can vary between bitches being ready.

She is being mated with a Siberian Husky.

Re: Best date for mate?

I am not anti breeding when done correctly but having had litter recently, I am aware of potential problems. A biggie is the market at present. I had 6 buyers lined up, 4 of which I was 100% wouldn't back out but circumstances change and they all did
