Re: How can I find out how much to pay for a KC registered Yorkie?

Can you get standard Yorkshire Terriers anymore?

My friend used to have one and he was quite tall, just a bit smaller than a cocker spaniel I would say.

Love Rocky it looks a proper Yorkie, I've seen quite alot of few adult Yorkies that are about the same size as he looks at 12 weeks old. Maybe these are the stupid teacup breed.

Ah, see I think that's the most common misconception- there is only one size of yorkie, unlike poodles. The standard is 'up to 7lbs (3.2kg)' so anything up to that us a standard yorkie- and anything over is a far sturdier wee dog!
I've had people wanting a yorkie pup for their kids, but they are too fragile for most, although in the last litter there was a pup who was sturdier than usual, and a family used to yorkies with gentle kids, so it was a perfect fit!
Personally, (i think ive said before) I would like to see the weight limit increased a little- since they used to be about 15lbs when the breed was young- but don't tell the YT exhibitors I said that ! (I love 'em no matter what the size- tiny, standard and teapot alike, although bambi is the last tiny I'll hopefully own!)

lol Rocky is double standard then We like him as, as you said, the small ones seem a bit fragile for a family with kiddies - Rocky, while still small compared to other dogs, is still big enough and chunky enough to be out and about on long walks and withstand some rough and tumble with the kiddies

i'm sure you can get "standard" sized yt's out there although technically they are not breed standard, i've seen some as big as cockers spaniels and nothing like you see in the show ring size wise or colour. I actually saw some tricoloured yt's advertised recently

I think the standards for weights do need to be updated

Chinese cresteds is 5.5kg. Percy is a muscley healthy 6.5kg and he normally looks like a small dog in the ring

I saw one once, before we got Rocky and when she said it was a Yorkie I was VERY surprised, it was as big as a cocker!

Yes, I see many more Yorkies Rocky's size than small these days.

Huh, I get told all the time poppet -my 10lber- is massive, and that kuki at 5.5lbs is tiny (popps mom), unless all 3lbs of bambi is out with us when I get asked if I'll be breeding teacups from her
Strange thing is though, kukis mom is 1lb Heavier than her, but the same measurements, just heavier built! There are no measurements in the toy breed standards (that I recall in the ones I've read) yet there is for larger breeds

I think people tend to take the 'Toy' part of toy breeds too seriously these days, an something will need done about it some day, some how- or else you will have teacup Everything and a Healthy, structured nothing! I could put poppet to work no problem- and will at agility and hopefully flyball, but I don't think many of the other yorkies I've met about here could jump onto a sofa never mind clear a course .
Then again the adverts for 'mini yorkies' do all look Very big these days
