I've never actually thought about them before, but I don't think he will have a very healthy liver if he's been put on antibiotics for so long. I wouldn't imagine a vet would recommend this but.. who knows.

Re: Dog STI's

I know some people whose boys are stood regularly swab them - don't know if they give them AB's though

But yes, dogs can be affected by STI's just as humans can

I think she must have meant 'treat' STIs, as I can't imagine any vet giving out antibiotics long term. They'd do so much damage to the liver over an extended period, and become completely ineffective at fighting infection.

Re: Dog STI's

Treated if needed, but not long term surely, as already said that would do him more harm than good surely!

My bitch was on a course of antibiotics while she was with stud dog, as first time we bred her she seemed to contract an infection and had an early miscarriage..so we did for a week to cover her but thats it.

Dosn't sound like she is very picky about who she studs to with that many litters

Re: Dog STI's

I know some stud dog owners ask for visiting bitches to be put on a short course of pre-mate antibiotics but surely if he is regularly put on them routinely on a regular basis they will be completely ineffective due to over-use??
