Re: in-porting from the USA

i don't think i'd want to import, it seems like an awful lot of stress for the new pup and if i think of all the things Stark and I have done in the first 21 days, all the training, meeting new people and dogs, cuddles.....

i thought the 6 hour round hung over/come down drive was enough for us all tbh

When you are a passenger on the flight you can remind the pilot via air crew that there is live cargo and the pilot needs to have the load space heater on during the flight.

Carrying a picture of the dog in question to show to the crew/pilot humanises the idea so they can connect with the idea rather than a disassociated concept of dog in a crate somewhere.

Re: in-porting from the USA

We imported two dogs from USA to mainland europe. We flew there to pick them up and had them transported back with us for 90 dollars each (that was quite a few yrs back tho). They only had to be vaccinated against rabbies.

We didn't need to have them quarantined tho as we don't live in the UK.

There are reasons you NEED to import tho hun.

There are under 100 AKKs (I'd say) in the UK and the genepool is much smaller than most breeds like GSDs where around 30000 KC reg in the UK, not to mention unreg ones. We dont want the breed bottlenecking or becoming completely inbred, so a new line is needed

I would say we have more like 200 in the UK now

but yes you are so right about the genepool being so small so new lines are needed
