If you get the bitches spayed it won't be a problem. He can still mount them but nothing will come of it

Re: Help Needed!

You see theres money to,I love my dogs but keeping a full running horse stud costs loads plus the bitches are 4+ I would like to know the prosess as I may let one of the bitches(Lola,Snap,Coco,Saffy) breed with him (Bleu)I already had intrest in his and Safs pups because they are both very well bred

Re: Help Needed!

What breed are they? What health tests have you had done? How do you know they are good examples of *their* breed? And are you aware of the costs of breeding without cutting corners?

If you want to make money from breeding dogs, you're asking on the wrong forum really, as done correctly you will most likely end up out of pocket by taking one or two litters from a bitch. Having friends/family who are interested in a pup means nothing unfortunately, it might be a nice idea now, but they may well change their mind over the coming weeks/months, leaving you with pups and no homes to go to. With the current climate the way it is, unless you have thoroughly researched and are willing to put in extra time to keeping pups back should you need to, I would honestly have your girls spayed and call it a day. There are so many litters being bred, with prices dropping through the floor for pups, particularly from unplanned litters, and with dogs being put to sleep every day it's simply criminal to breed in this way.

I am aware of the costs but the pups would be free to a good home I do not breed for profit (Apart From Horses)

Re: Help Needed!

Stallion Problems

Here you say you don't know whether to breed from your stallion who you are irresponsibly and dangerously keeping with the mares, now you say you have a full running horse stud.

Which is it?

No full running horse stud farm would keep a stallion with a load of mares.

You are a troll - go away.

Re: Help Needed!

Rather than have all the bitches spayed, you could wait a while and have the male done when he is mature, and keep them seperate while the bitches are in season - that would be cheaper!

I agree with SL's post though, far much more to think about re breeding than just asking ya vet, lol!

And just to point out - dogs arent 'in' the KC, they are either KC Registered or not

I've got plenty of friends with KC registered dogs, that's not a reason for me to breed, it's a decision you take after lots of research, and that can take years.

Most vets know very little about canine reproduction generally speaking, as far as they're concerned if it's got enough legs, tail at one end and mouth at the other, you can breed from it.

If you're inexperienced, the worst thing you could do is allow your dogs to breed, I've seen your thread in the horse section, similar accidents can happen with dogs and bitches, the way they mate means the bitch is prone to vaginal tears, as is the dog prone to injuries if they are not supervised and assisted when necessary. If you haven't health tested, you could bring pups into the world that will suffer because of your lack of research and committment to a good breeding programme. If anything goes wrong during whelping, you could lose the bitch and/or any pups, is that something you could live with? Is it worth it to bring *free to good home* pups into the world, when there are so many already in rescue for your friends/family to adopt?
