Re: How do you let people choose 'their' pup?

I usually match the pups to the new homes, and I choose the best off the waiting list to give my pups the best home, not just the first on the list

Re: How do you let people choose 'their' pup?

With both litters, we were able to choose. For some reason, the last litter hadn't been looked at and only two bitches had gone, so we had pick, although Zak picked us by throwing himself at the OH! If I'd known what a hard dog he was, I think I'd have made him pick another one! I chose his brother Bear based on looks first then temperament between three. That's probably really wrong.

I understand a proper breeder (neither of my boys' breeders were 'ethical, proper' breeders imo) would guide and maybe choose for a buyer, but I'd hate that, so my advice to the OP would be to guide them but let them choose.

Re: How do you let people choose 'their' pup?

For us, any 'show potential' homes get first pick, then others after that, usually in order they contacted us. We do try and 'guide' people to the pup with the personality we think might best suit them and they usually take our advice, lol!

Re: How do you let people choose 'their' pup?

There is only one who is going to be 'worked' she is going to a shooting home so they are primarily looking for a sound family pet, but we hope the field trial in the Dam's history and pedigree will be passed on! (I don't think there is any way of me identifying a good gun dog at this age, please correct me if I am wrong) Apart from that they are all family/couples, tbh I think I will guide them with what I think would suit them and let them think they have chosen!!!!!
