Re: Horrified-can I do anything?

It is possible that your council will have an animal welfare officer who will get involved (ours certainly would) and he actually has the legal right to do something about it and to enforce it. So if they need a license he will make sure they get one which also means having the right facilities. I know our one looks at the local paper and approaches any advertisers where the warning bells are ringing but he obviously relies on the public to notify him if they find dodgy breeders.

forget about health testing though - that is not an issue.

I read it that blitz means it doesn't matter to the animal welfare officer, ie there is nothing they can do about it, of course I could be wrong.

of course that is what I meant. There is no legal requirement to health test.

Re: Horrified-can I do anything?

hi all,
so the rspca got back to us very quickly but iv only just been able to pick up the reply and iv got some more details to give them to see what happens. they also said that it is not an offence to take a pup before 8 weeks but it is an offence to 'sell' a pup before 8 weeks and that trading standards might also be able to help. theyr main concern was whether i thought the pups looked healthy but iv never seen pups so yound before so wouldnt know what is and isnt normal for them and their living conditions. like i very honestly said i did some research when thinking about breeding trouble but as we decided not to i am not that informed.
i will keep you posted...

in terms of a dog warden i dont live in the borough (or very near it) does anyone here live in mill hill? thats where they are if anyone knows the borough/dog warden there. i will have a hunt on tinternet for more info

thanks for your responses, i just couldnt leave what i saw

Apologies as I had completely misread it, and I don't think I was the only one

Did they confirm that they are licensed (by the local authority) breeders then? as otherwise it isn't an 'offence' to 'sell' a pup before 8 weeks... licensed breeders are the only breeders obligated to keep their pups to 8 weeks, others can sell them earlier, many like to sell them at 7 weeks, it depends on the breed and the individuals concerned. As a buyer I like mine to come at 7 weeks - as a seller I'd prefer to keep them if the buyer doesn't have any other pets as they do need the socialisation. Pity the RSPCA didn't say they'd go around and check it out for themselves
