We have an American Bulldog bitch and we are looking at breeding her sometime in the future. She has just had her first birthday (bless :P) and shes come into season just once.

When is the best time to breed her do you think?

this breed arent fully mature until they are three years old , so not yet!
she`ll also need health testing beforehand , she`ll need screening for NCL and hipscoring!

The best time to breed is not just about the most suitable age - (which would be around 3/3 and a half).

Its about ALOT of other things to.

- when health testing has been carried out with the correct results, when you have had people experienced in the breed confirm to you that she is of a good quality to breed on from (breeding shouldnt be done for the sake of it!)

- when you are educated enough on all aspects of breeding (so mating, whelping, raising and selling puppies).

- when you are educated on the breed as a whole, and understand what you are likely to get from a mating, having researched lines and pedigrees.

- when you have a suitable number of homes lined up and a stud dog that matches her on and off paper.

(AND A NUMBER OF OTHER THINGS!) - as you have asked such a basic question, I believe you are only at the VERY start of learning.

The above is just a few things that should be in place BEFORE breeding for someone wanting to breeding in the most ethical, and responsible way. If thats not you then the simple answer to your question is ' never - there is no right time'!!
