Re: is it fair...........

I told the people who are getting Lily's pup that for Christmas I will send the puppy pack home to wrap and a framed picture of the pup they were quite happy with this idea. They will then pick up puppy around New Years Day or shortly thereafter.....

Re: is it fair...........

The answer to this always depends on the circumstances.....obviously its not something to rush into and we all know that too many poor dogs end up in rescue due to people making a spur of the moment decision because they are cute and the kids will like it!

If the new home is a suitable place to bring a new puppy during the festive season...without too many people in and out/parties/noise etc and that all other matters concerning getting a puppy (regardless of what time of year it is) are dealt with, understood and taken seriously then I see no problem with it.

I'm picking up my husky puppy on christmas eve however I have thought long and hard for over a year about getting another dog, health checks are done, I've met both parents, my home at christmas isn't going to be chaos...in fact my home life is busier when it isn't christmas what with kids in and out going to and from school, me in and out shopping and busy with work (I work from home) so the christmas period is a relaxing one for us, I've had many talks with the breeder about everything and we both feel in these circumstances there won't be any problems.
I also live in rural France and it isn't the same here over christmas and new year, everything is very low-key...no parties, fireworks or fuss is made.

Re: is it fair...........

Our boy is 8 weeks on christmas day, Christmas is another day for us so would be the perfet time to bring him home as gives me more time with him before having to go back to work, However i will go with whatever the breeder says,

Luckily she knows us as we got Dora from her

Re: is it fair...........

My pups are 8 weeks old on boxing day, 2 are staying anyway and the third has to stay until mid feb as he is going abroad and the other is still looking for a home. I have no problems with letting a pup go at xmas time if the household is not manic and over stressful, otherwise I am happy to keep them until the new year when things are generally quieter.
