Re: whelping help

My dog had her pups last week at day 62 and the lowest her temp went was 37.0, she did have a dip on day 60 to 37.1 You will know, just like a woman knows when it is the real thing when having a baby, if you are close to your dog and know her moods, you will 'know' when you dog is whelping. Mine was shivering intermittently from about 8am then panting from about 10am then she started ripping the newspaper I had put down about 12am her waters burst about 15mins before the first pup at 1pm. All 9 pups were delivered by 4.15pm.
The first pup she just looked at, so I tore the cord gave her the placenta which she ate then she started to show interest in the pup, phew!!!! Pup 2 cam out and she took over, chewing the cords and cleaning by herself, there was only one which I had to tear the sac on as she was to busy tearing the cord!!!
By no means an I am expert, but I have witnessed plenty of pups being born and you will find it magical!
Good Luck!
