Ember's still got milk

Ember has had milk for over two weeks now, she looks like she's recently had puppies! Is there anything I can give her to stop the milk?
She is acting normal in herself and isn't worried about it, it just seems to be going on a long time. or is it normal to have milk this long in a phantom?

Re: Ember's still got milk

Speak to your vet and ask about giving her Galastop? When my girl started producing milk during her phantom that is what they gave her.

Yup I recommend the same thing too! Is she spayed? I'd recommend getting her spayed as Millie had milk on and off for years and it eventually caused breast cancer. She had to have a massive tumour removed and a mammoth strip on three teats. She had to spend the night in the vets cos it was so painful!

It is not recommended to spay during a phantom as the blood flow to their uterus will be greatly increased and can cause them to bleed out on the table . Generally you'd go by the "3 months after" rule for spaying, like you would with a season.

Re: Ember's still got milk

Thanks.

She was mated but didn't have puppies, she obviously thinks she should have . I am trying again next season, so she won't be spayed yet.

Re: Ember's still got milk

My bitch had phantoms every time, lol! She got milk and I never worried as she never had enough to give her sore, full, hard boobs. Ichecked them daily and if I'd been concerned at all, it would have been off to the vets for Galastop.

Its probs too late now, but I have used raspberry tablets from Dorwest to help prevent phantoms and the ensuing milk to good success.

Otherwise, make sure she isnt drinking loads of water to produce more milk.

If you don't think they are bad enough to require vet treatment then still keep an eye on her as they can get mastitis from producing milk but not being "emptied"... that was one of the things our vet was concerned about. If you maybe just try and squeeze each nipple gently once a day or so to inspect and make sure the milk she is producing isn't off colour or smelly as this would indicate infection. Also if they get inflamed looking or hot to the touch I'd send her off for a trip to the vets. If you are concerned at all, like Ceearott said, then I would consider Galastop .
