I think you'll find most experienced breeders on here only support responsible breeding.

Why didn't you have a mentor before deciding to breed your girl?

Right firstly you have posted asking people to help you who you dont know to come to your home...
secondly there is millions of dogs in need of homes and have to be pts ever day and you are just adding to that so your the Arrogant one for breeding in the first place ...money money money money money !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Mentor required to assist with birth for newfie

well lets start with get a vet to come over and I'm not suggesting that I'm saying you will have to do this if you intent on her actually surviving as you clearly are in the deep end of the pool!

Secondly why is it you have breaded your poor baby; you have no idea what your doing and if you wanted another dog or 'puppy' go to the rescues thee are 1000's needing a home, stop adding to the problem and furthermore making money out of your pet is disgusting would you breed your child and sell her babies.

You are unlikely to get the help you want here as people will be concerned about the safety of your dog in your hands.

you are not prepared whether you actually have consulted a vet is unknown and you should have got a 'mentor' before you got her pregnant

Re: Mentor required to assist with birth for newfie

Oh dear.

I think it would be wise if you want one of the breeders on this forum to take you seriously, that you give us some more details to work on:

Health tests
Reasons for breeding
Why your bitch's breeder won't be a mentor

Please excuse the rude comments, it's just that people jump to conclusions as we have so many irresponsible breeders coming on here asking for advice.
It does sound a bit suspect.

Great that you realise you need a mentor though, just perhaps a little late.

Re: Mentor required to assist with birth for newfie

So, sticking my head above the parapet here - don't shoot me!

Someone comes on and asks for help with the whelping of her litter. Nowhere in her post does it say 'help I haven't a clue' - she is asking for hands on help at the birth. Which is a month away, so not exactly a last minute afterthought.

There could be a perfectly good reason why she needs this - maybe she has a mentor who will be unavailable at that time, or who lives some distance away (mine does!).

Maybe I am too soft, and I don't support unethical/unplanned/undesriable breeding as I hope you know, but shouldn't we try and be a little more helpful? After all, if she really doesn't have a clue, we could all be guilty of standing back while a dog is put in danger in a novices hands.

It would have been better to have found out more about the OP and her dog before assuming the worst. Ideally yes she should have put more details in to start with, but not everyone thinks to put their whole breeding regimen in their first post! I know everyone means well, and everyone who has posted is right in what they say, (people have strong views which we are all entitiled to) but sometimes it comes across so harshly it is impossible to get a positive outcome.

I hope this lady does find someone to assist. Maybe look up an assured breeder on the kc website and see if there's one local, or contact a breed club. I also hope that whatever the circumstances of the breeding that the whelping goes well for all concerned.

*Slinks back behind parapet!*

Re: Mentor required to assist with birth for newfie

Yes she could have had a gentler response.
She could also have come back and said - yes I have done all the tests, have been planning this for years, have a waiting list for the litter, have researched the pedigrees to rule out possible problems, have spoken to breeders etc but am feeling concerned that I need more help with my beloved dog so please can someone who is experienced and/or qualified agree to help me (will need references of course) and I will reimburse them.........
so we`ll wait for that, yes?
